Atletico Madrid will return to Spain to take on Eibar in the La Liga on Saturday.
Altletico Match Form
Atletico faced neighbors Real Madrid in the Supercopa de Espana final in Saudi Arabia on Sunday. They beat Barcelona 3-2 in the semi-final to reach the showpiece event. Ironically, the two teams who did not win a domestic trophy faced off in the Supercopa final. The game was goalless in regulation, and neither side found a way in extra time. Alvaro Morata was through on goal in the dying stages, but Federico Valverde brought him down and was sent off for the same.
That foul kept the game goalless, and Real triumphed in the penalty shootout. Saul Niguez and Thomas Partey missed the first two penalties for Atletico and they never quite recovered in the shootout. Now Diego Simeone’s men will turn their attention back to the league. They are five points behind both Barcelona and Real Madrid at the summit. Atletico have won their last three games in the La Liga.
However, Real Sociedad in fifth place are close by, and Atletico will have to work for the Champions League places. They still have a long shot at the title, but Barcelona and Real look to be the two contenders for now. Atletico faced Levante in their last league game and claimed a 2-1 victory. Angel Correa and Felipe scored two early goals to hand their side the three points. Correa should retain his starting spot after he scored against Barcelona last week as well.
Eibar Match Form
Eibar are at the other end of the table, nervously looking over their shoulders. They are in 16th place, four points clear of the drop zone. Mallorca in 18th place are on 15 points, and they will hope to overtake Eibar in the coming weeks. However, Eibar are not in great form themselves. They have won just one of their last five league games. That win was a comprehensive one as they beat Granada 3-0.
Sergi Enrich, Kike, and Takashi Inui scored in that game to hand the three points to Eibar. Their last game also ended in a win as Cacareno were the opponents in the Copa del Rey. Eibar won 2-1 to progress to the next round. An own goal from Alberto Delgado in stoppage time secured the win for Eibar. They lost against Valencia in their last La Liga game.
Eibar vs Atletico Last Meetings & Betting Tips
Atletico have enjoyed playing against Eibar in recent years. They have not lost against Eibar in the last 11 head to head clashes in La Liga. Out of those Atletico have won nine, drawing the other two. They last meeting between these two sides ended in a 3-2 win for Atletico.
A similar result should be instore this time, but the scoreline may differ. The total goals should be under 2.5 this time, and Atletico have a strong chance of keeping a clean sheet. They have conceded just 22 league goals, which is the only more than Bilbao in the league. A close win is on the cards for Atleti on Saturday.
