United will host City in the Manchester Derby as the rivals will play in the EFL Cup semi-final first leg at Old Trafford.
Manchester United faced Colchester in the previous round and passed with flying colours. Goals from Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial and an own goal secured a 3-0 win at Old Trafford. Their toughest test of the tournament came in the round before when they visited Stamford Bridge. A brace from Rashford was enough to send the Red Devils through to the next round at the expense of Chelsea.
Rashford has enjoyed a great individual season for United so far. He has scored 16 goals in all competitions. Out of those 12 have come in the league, and he is on course for his best season at the club. The departures of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez opened up the spot, and Rashford has certainly made the most of it. However the team as a whole has not been consistent. United are fifth in the Premier League, five points behind Chelsea in fourth place. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side need to improve if they want Champions League football next season.
United faced Arsenal in their last league game, and the Gunners won 2-0. The London side thoroughly dominated the game and United were secondary in all aspects. Ironically, United have impressed against the top sides this season. They have beat Chelsea twice and claimed wins over Manchester City and Tottenham last month. The only points which leaders Liverpool have dropped were against United.
Speaking of Liverpool, defending champions City look to be out of the title race at this stage. They trail the Reds by 14 points even though City have played one more game. City won the domestic treble last season. They beat Chelsea in the EFL Cup Final on penalties to claim their first trophy out of those three. Pep Guardiola will want to defend that crown this time.
City traveled to face Oxford United in the quarter-final and claimed a 3-1 victory. Joao Cancelo opened the scoring for City before Matt Taylor equalized for Oxford. Raheem Sterling scored twice in the second half to seal the win for his side. Sterling has been in great form this season, and he has 19 goals in all competitions already. Despite this, Kevin De Bruyne has been City’s player of the season. United will need to mark the Belgian closely to have any chance of getting a result.
In their last league game City hosted Everton and won 2-1. Gabriel Jesus scored twice for the Cityzens in that game. With the league title out of hand, Guardiola could give more importance to the cup competitions now.
Manchester United vs Manchester City Betting Tips
City will be the favorites for this one, but it won’t be a straightforward tie. United are potent on the counter-attack, and that strategy paid off at the Etihad in December. The total goals should be over 2.5 in this game, and a draw is a likely result at Old Trafford.
