An optimistic Dallas side will face the Wizards in their first NBA game of the season.
The Mavericks finished 14th in the regular season last time, and only the Suns won fewer games in the west. However, the season was brightened up by the performances of rookie Luka Doncic. He won the Rookie of the Year award for the Mavericks. Atlanta drafted him third in the 2018 Draft before trading him to Dallas Doncic averaged 21.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 6 assists in his first season in the NBA. He will be joined by another promising youngster in the form of Kristaps Porzingis this season for Dallas.
Porzingis is another high draft pick who has shown huge potential. Drafted by the New York Knicks in 2016, he has improved over the years. He averaged 22.7 points and 6.6 rebounds in the 2017-18 season, which was the last time he was fit. Porzingis suffered a torn ACL in February 2018, and he has not played since. After some problems off the court with the Knicks front office, he was traded to the Mavericks this February.
The Mavericks sent Dennis Smith Jr., DeAndre Jordan, Wesley Matthews, and some draft picks to New York in the trade. Along with Porzingis they also received Tim Hardaway Jr. and Courtney Lee in the deal. The other members in the starting five for Dallas will be Delon Wright and Dwight Powell. Wright ended the season well for Dallas, and he will hope to carry that form into the new season.
As for the Wizards, it will be Bradley Beal who will decide the course of their season. Point guard John Wall looks set to miss most of the season due to an Achilles injury and Beal will take centre stage. The Wizards resisted offers from many teams for their shooting guard in the summer. Beal was wanted by many, but he agreed upon a 2-year, $72 million extension with the Wizards.
All of a sudden, coach Scott Brooks has a different job in front of him. Marquee player Wall is not in the picture, and the squad has changed considerably. The franchise has banked on Beal, and the guard has shown promise as well. Beal averaged 25.6 points, 5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists last season. He was named an All-Star last year for the second straight time.
Numerous players in the roster are injured for Washington. C.J. Miles and Isaiah Thomas are the major absentees to start the season. Thomas has been limited to just 29 games in the last two seasons. Rui Hachimura is an exciting rookie, and he could soon push for a starting spot on the roster.
Dallas Mavericks vs Washington Wizards Betting Tips
Dallas are still getting back to full speed, and Washington should get the opening win due to that. Porzingis is not at his best, but Bradley Beal certainly is. The total points should be under 226.5, but Washington should get an easy win to kick off their season.
