Burnley vs Cardiff City Preview
Cardiff will travel to Turf Moor to face Burnley as they attempt to keep their survival hopes alive in the Premier League.
Burnley were in danger of relegation themselves, but recent results have distinguished that fear. They have won their last two league games, and are now eight points clear of danger. Last weekend’s 3-1 win at Bournemouth was the cherry on top, and it all but sealed the Clarets’ Premier League status for another season.
Sean Dyche’s men produced a clinical performance at Dean Court, and three goals from three shots on target did the trick for them. Another three points will make safety sure for them, and Cardiff is a fixture as good as any to get them. Their last home game saw them beat Wolves 2-0, and Dyche will be hoping for a similar performance.
Cardiff, meanwhile, are on the other side of the dreaded line. Neil Warnock’s team is in 18th place with 28 points, and they are 5 points adrift of safety. Southampton and Brighton are the two sides they will want to pull down, and both have 33 points as of now. The Welsh side has punched above their weight this season, but that could prove to be meaningless in the end.
Manchester City defeated them in the last Premier League game, as Cardiff lost 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium. Their previous home game was a loss as well when some contentious refereeing decisions handed Chelsea a 2-1 win. Out of the six games left, the Burnley one is a relatively easy one, and Warnock will want to maximize that.
Cardiff still have to face Liverpool and Manchester United, which are two tough games. After Burnley, they will face Brighton, which will be a crucial game at the foot of the table. Cardiff have lost five of their last six Premier League games, and they are the clear underdogs based on form.
Cardiff’s away form has been woeful, and they have won just two league games on the road all season. They have failed to score in three of their last five matches, and the team has struggled for goals throughout the season. Burnley will go into the tie as favorites, courtesy of their recent form.
Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes have struck an excellent partnership for Burnley, and both of them were on the scoresheet against Bournemouth. Midfielder Victor Camarasa is Cardiff’s top-scorer, which tells how much their strikers have struggled this season.
Burnley have few injury concerns, and Phil Bardsley is the only significant doubt for Sean Dyche. Sol Bamba and Callum Paterson will continue to be sidelined for Cardiff as they recover from long-term problems. Midfielder Harry Arter is nursing a minor ankle problem, and Joe Ralls could be asked to deputize if he fails to recover.
Burnley vs Cardiff City Prediction
The game is bound to be a close one, and expect to see under 2.5 goals in this game. Burnley should clinch the home win to move closer to safety while pushing Cardiff deeper into trouble at the same time.
