Match Info: Thursday, January 23, 8:30 UTC Brisbane Convention Centre
Round 17 of the NBL season 2019-20 will kick-off with a relatively less-hyped match as Brisbane Bullets will be hosting South East Melbourne Phoenix on January 23.
After a shoddy start to the tournament, Brisbane finally appears to have got its act together and are currently 5th on the points table with 11 wins and 11 losses. Meanwhile, South East Melbourne have declined hard in the last couple of weeks and have dropped down to the No.8 position on the table with 9 wins and 13 losses.
The two teams have clashed twice in this season and on both occasions South East Melbourne registered comprehensive wins. The last time Brisbane had hosted South East Melbourne was in November 2019 when the Phoenix had secure a wonderful 110:95 win on the road. Things, however, have changed now and they are unlikely to find the goings so easy this time.
Brisbane has suddenly found some great form and have won 4 of their last 5 matches. They are currently on a terrific 3-match winning spree where they defeated the likes of Illawarra Hawks, New Zealand Breakers and even Perth Wildcats on the trot. Their last win came against Illawarra Hawks – a superb 106:77 win at home.
The Bullets have a lot of players in god rhythm. Lamar Patterson, Nathan Sobey, Matthew Hodgson and captain Cameron Gliddon are all in good form and are coming off a good game. Expect them to be doing the bulk of the scoring against Melbourne as well.
South East Melbourne has suffered a tremendous decline in the last few weeks. They have lost 4 of their last 5 matches and seem to have become stuck in a rot. In Round 16, they suffered two losses – 81:98 against Sydney Kings and 71:97 against Perth Wildcats.
Melbourne is overly dependent on the likes of John Roberson, Dane Pineau and Ben Madgen. While their form has been decent, the other players need to step up and captain Mitchell Creek would really need to lead by example if they harbor any hope of staging a comeback.
Brisbane Bullets vs S.E.M Phoenix NBL Basketball Betting Tips
Things have changed rapidly in the last two weeks for both Brisbane Bullets and South East Melbourne Phoenix. The Bullets are currently the superior side on form and look in great rhythm. Playing at home, they will have the advantage and would be eager to extend their winning spree to 4 consecutive matches.
Both these teams have a solid average of points per game so we can expect a high-scoring match with the total points scored being somewhere between 190-210.
Brisbane Bullets are currently looking like the better team and with the terrific form they shown, it would be prudent to back them as the winners of this contest.
