Fiorentina will look to change their fortunes when they play Bologna in the Serie A on Monday.
After 17 games of the season, Fiorentina find themselves in danger of relegation. They are in 15th place, just three points clear of the drop zone. After finishing fourth in 2015, they have continued to drop in the standings. Last season Fiorentina finished 16th and avoided relegation by just three points. The poor run made the hierarchy at the club take a swift decision to fire manager Vincenzo Montella. Giuseppe Iachini will take over the duties from him in the new year.
Iachini has managed a host of clubs in his career, the latest of which was Empoli. He played for Fiorentina and was at the club for five years. Fiorentina is the club where he was the longest time as a player. He will hope to better the club from the dugout now. Fiorentina’s last game ended in a 4-1 loss to Roma. Their last league win came in the last week of October when they beat Sassuolo 2-1. Gaetano Castrovilli and Nikola Milenkovic scored in that game as Fiorentina came back from a deficit to win.
Since then they have played seven Serie A games without a win. A 2-0 win over Cittadella in the Coppa Italia was a welcome distraction, but it did not change their league form. Fiorentina claimed a 1-1 draw with Inter before the loss against Roma, and they will hope to play like that. A win over Bologna will go a long way in securing their season.
Bologna went into the winter break on the back of two consecutive wins. The first was a 2-1 result against Atalanta in a game when they finished with ten men. Rodrigo Palacio and Andrea Poli scored in either half to give a 2-0 lead to their side. Rusian Malinovskiy pulled one back for Atalanta, but they could not mount a comeback. Danilo Larangeira received a red card in the dying stages for Bologna. Atalanta had 60% possession in the game, but Bologna held on to claim the three points.
Bologna are currently in ninth place, which is one above where they finished last season. Improving on that finish will be a considerable achievement for manager Sinisa Mihajlovic. Bologna faced Lecce in their last game and recorded a 3-2 win. They were 3-0 up within an hour and held on for the three points.
The head to head record between these two sides does not tell us much. Fiorentina have played out two goalless draws in their last two games with Bologna. Before that, Fiorentina had won seven out of the last eight games.
Bologna vs Fiorentina Betting Tips
The current situation is different, as Bologna are in a better place. New manager Ianichi will be keen to make an impact and Fiorentina will do him justice. Both sides should score, and the total goals should be Over 2.5 in the game. An entertaining draw is a likely result between the two sides.
