Saski Baskonia will host Maccabi Tel Aviv at the Fernando Buesa Arena Thursday in the EuroLeague.
Going into the eighth round of fixtures, Baskonia are currently tenth in the table. They have won three of the seven matches so far. Only the top eight teams will make it to the playoffs and Baskonia will aim to be there when the regular season ends. They finished in seventh place last time to sneak into the postseason. In the first round, CSKA Moscow got the better of them and knocked them out of the competition.
Baskonia’s last EuroLeague game was against Olimpia Milano. Playing at home, Milan got an 81-74 win on the night. Nik Stauskas scored 15 points for Baskonia in the game, and no other player had more. Their offence was found wanting, and they scored just 15 points in the second quarter. Milan scored 25 in that period and built up a considerable lead which they never looked like losing.
After the Milan loss Baskonia played Obradoiro in the Liga ACB. They recorded a 92-79 win to climb to fifth place in the table. Baskonia had 35 rebounds in the game compared to just 26 from Obradoiro. They were clinical as well, shooting 53.1% from the floor. Tornike Shengelia top-scored for Baskonia with 29 points. He did not impress against Milan, but much will be expected of Shengelia against Maccabi.
Contrary to Baskonia, Maccabi are on a tremendous run currently. They have won the last nine games in all competitions. Maccabi’s last defeat was an 86-85 loss to Real Madrid in early October. Incredibly, all the nine wins since then have come by greater than ten points. Maccabi have faced some tough teams in that run as well. They have beaten Fenerbahce, Olympiacos, and Alba Berlin in that time. Berlin were their last opponents, and Maccabi beat them 104-78.
John DiBartolomeo scored 19 points in that win, and Scottie Wilbekin added 16 as well. Maccabi shot 57.1% from the field, which was a major factor in the win. Numerous players contributed in the game, and they scored more than 50 points in each quarter. It was a great offensive performance, which has been the theme for Maccabi this season.
Maccabi have scored 84.14 points per game in the EuroLeague this season, which is the third-best in the competition. Khimki and Panathinaikos are the teams who have bettered Maccabi’s points tally. Scottie Wilbekin and Omri Casspi have been a major part of this part of their game. Maccabi are excelling in their domestic league as well. Courtesy of a perfect record so far, they top the Isreali Basketball Premier League.
Saski Baskonia vs Maccabi Tel Aviv Betting Tips
Given their current form, Maccabi are an easy bet for the win against Baskonia. Their attack is one of the best in Europe, and it will be too much for Baskonia to handle. They should get the win by more than ten points in an entertaining game in Vitoria-Gasteiz.
