Both sides will look for their first EuroLeague win of the season when Olimpia Milano and Zalgiris Kaunas face off on Saturday.
Milano travelled to Munich to face Bayern in their first game. The German side were impressive and recorded a 78-64 win on the night. Despite being competitive in the first quarter, Milano lost steam later on and fell short. Luis Scola continued his form after the FIBA World Cup, and he had 17 points and 6 rebounds in the game. Scola averaged 17.9 points and 8.1 rebounds as he led Argentina all the way to the final at the World Cup.
Last season Milan had the best offense in the EuroLeague. They averaged 86.7 points per game in the regular season, which was more than any other side. However, they also allowed a similar number of points themselves, which proved to be their downfall. Milan finished 12th in the table as they won 14 out of the 30 regular-season games. In the Serie A, Milan could reach as far as the semi-finals despite finishing first in the regular season.
Coach Simone Pianigiani was relieved of his duties following two seasons in charge. Ettore Messina is in charge now at Milano. Under his guidance, they have won two out of the first three Serie A games this season. Most recently they hosted Trieste in the league and recorded an 88-73 win. Scola, Sergio Rodriguez, and Michael Roll combined for 50 points in that game.
Just like Milano, Zalgiris also started the EuroLeague season on a losing note. They hosted Saski Baskonia at the Zalgiris Arena and lost 70-58. The game was short of offensive firepower, and Zalgiris were especially poor at getting buckets. Marius Grigonis and Lukas Lekavicius top-scored for Zalgiris with 10 points. Zalgiris averaged 78.7 points per game in the EuroLeague regular season last time, and they should hope to do better in the offense.
Zalgiris finished eight last season to scrape into the EuroLeague playoffs. There they faced Fenerbahce Beko and lost the series 3-1. In the domestic league, Zalgiris have continued to dominate. They have won the last nine editions of the Betsafe LKL, the premier domestic league in Lithuania. This season as well, they started the favorites to retain their crown. In the first four league games, Zalgiris have won all four.
They have scored 88.5 points on average in those games, and the average points difference of victory has been 29.5. Zalgiris faced Lietkabelis in their last game and claimed a 96-69 win. They lost just four of the 33 regular-season games last year, and a similar record is not out of the question this time.
Olimpia Milano vs Zalgiris Kaunas Betting Tips
Milano have the home advantage on their side, which should be enough to get a close win against Zalgiris. The Lithuanian outfit will not make it easy, and the margin of victory will be less than 10 points. But Milan should have enough to get their first EuroLeague win of the season.
