2020 NBA Draft: The top 5 prospects

The 2020 NBA Draft is scheduled to take place on June 25. However, due to the ongoing pandemic, it is more than likely that the event could be pushed back by a month or more. Since the current NBA campaign is put on hold, there is a lot of confusion about how the draft process will go ahead as teams have not been able to properly scout prospects till now.

Whenever the NBA draft does happen, there are a few players who are already the most likely contenders for the top five prospects. Let’s have a look at them.

1. LaMelo Ball | Illawarra Hawks

He has one of the standout performers for his team in this season’s NBL and it is for good reason that 18-year-old LaMelo Ball is being considered one of the brightest prospects in basketball at the moment. The 6-foot-7 point guard has shown a flair of controlling the game with his poise and instincts. He can operate at different speeds makes magical touch passes. What’s more, Ball can also transform into a good defender with his agility, instincts and remarkable size.

2. Anthony Edwards | Georgia Bulldogs

Here is another youngster who has shot the basketball scene on fire with his incredible skills. His athleticism and shot-creation has been stunning. He is tough to contain and is more than a capable shooter. Edwards comes across as an elite athlete and any team will only benefit by his selection. He can check three positions at the NBA level because of his strength, length and swiftness on the court. One area that the youngster has to improve on is to play on both ends.

3. Killian Hayes | Ratiopharm Ulm

Killian Hayes has emerged as one of the favorite draft prospects in the 2020 class. He’s shown his ability as a crafty scorer, while also being a good playmaker and a lethal stepback. At 6 feet-5, he’s of great size for a lead guard. Furthermore, Hayes changes speed and direction with the ball particularly well and has a three-level scoring potential. He’s fluid and can use his size to overpower the opposition’s defenders with ease. One area that he will have to address is his unwillingness to use his right hand which limits him on the floor.

4. Onyeka Okongwu |USC Trojans

This 6-foot-9 athlete should be considered for his exceptional size alone. That and his ability to get swiftly up and down the floor make Onyeka Okongwu and exciting prospect. He’s also a soft touch player and has displayed impressive body control. Okongwu is an impact player as a rim protector and his reach and quickness make him extra lethal. He will, however, have to develop his offensive game from distance to become a complete package.

5. James Wiseman | Memphis Tigers

James Wiseman

Being 7-foot-1 with a 7-foot-6 wingspan gives James Wiseman an incredible advantage on the basketball court and he is bound to be a top prospect in the drafts for this reason. He played college basketball for the Memphis Tigers and still hasn’t gained great experience. However, as he has already shown, Wiseman is gifted with raw talent and is just 19 years of age. He will undoubtedly be someone to watch out for and might make a big splash in this year’s drafts.
